Nona's Chair

We have this chair at home that used to belong to Conor's great-grandmother, Nona. I LOVE the chair, and I wish I could find the same exact pattern to recover the chair. I decided to take Emma's pictures on the chair every month. It gives a great idea of how big she is getting. I'm looking forward to making an album of a year's worth of pictures in Nona's chair. Below is a progression of the past 3 months. Enjoy!

Wishing time wouldn't fly by so fast...

I look at my daughter every day and realize how quickly she is gaining weight, how quickly she is getting bigger, and taller, and stronger, and more inquisitive. Emma amazes me everyday. Just this afternoon I noticed, as Conor and I were walking through Target with Emma in her car seat, that she was trying to lift her head forward, instead of laying back in the car seat and just enjoying the ride. She was trying to lift her head to look around. Now Emma has always loved to observe her surroundings... lights, ceiling fans, our dog, our faces, the tv... she loves to look around. She will sit in my lap, for what seems to me to be a very long period of time for a three month old, just to look around. She has also these past couple of weeks started to giggle. Her smiles were usually just that, smiles. But she is becoming more vocal, and discovering her voice. It's amazing. Her giggles are pure heaven. The whole world disappears when she giggles. It makes me wonder what it's going to be like when she starts talking. I mean, don't get me wrong, I can totally wait. There is no rush, but I can't help but wonder about all that she will have to say. As always, I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them.

Here is Emma laughing at herself in the mirror. She was having a blast...

Smiling in her swing...

And this was her first time in her Bumbo seat. Did you ever think that a pacifier could capture so much attention? Love it.

Shoes and friends and Emma

Our friend J.J. and his family got Emma the cutest gifts... an organic stuffed monkey, adorable little socks that look like little girl shoes, and my favorite... baby TOMS shoes! I didn't even know they made them so small. I love TOMS shoes and their mission: for every pair of shoes that is purchased, a pair is given to a child in need of shoes. How fantastic is that?

Thursday Emma and I had lunch with an old friend of mine, Lydia, and her beautiful daughter. It was the first time they were meeting Emma and we had a great lunch. Emma was an angel, of course, and she did not make a peep while we were at lunch. What a good little girl...

On Friday, William and Juli came by the house to hang out and meet Emma. They live in New York and were in town for the weekend, so it was a great chance to catch up. Again, Emma was a peach, just vegging and enjoying the afternoon. That is until they left, then the crying began. Emma is a pretty easy baby. She is not very fussy and she sleeps through the night, but for some reason or another, come dusk, the witching hour begins. I think she just gets tired and overwhelmed from the stimulation of the day. She usually just wants to nurse and cuddle, which is just fine with me!

A celebration...

Today was my little man's birthday. My cousin, my godson, my buddy. I cannot believe how quickly this year has gone by. I was in the delivery room when he was born, I was his nanny when I was pregnant, and now, he's a little person, with spirit, spunk, and so much determination. When I go over to my cousin's house, I will grab him and scoop him up in my arms and try to slobber him with a big kiss even before he has time to react. These days, he is not one to stay in your arms for long, he has too many places to be and too much to do. But as soon as I sneak in my kiss, I put him back down and when his feet hit the floor, he's gone. He reminds me of a wind up toy that you would place on the table and it would just take off. Happy birthday my little man. I love you.

Today was also Emma's 3 month birthday. Time doesn't need to stop, it just needs to slow down. Just a little. Is that too much to ask for?

Emma... you light up my life little girl...

A week in review...

What a busy week this has been! On Monday night, Emma, Conor and I had dinner with our dear friends Daniel and Brigitte. It was Daniel's first time to meet Emma and we had a blast. I have known Daniel since high school and he is one of my closest friends, and although he is constantly traveling for work, we try to get together and catch up every few months over dinner.

On Tuesday, the girls (my cousins) got back from 3 weeks away at camp and so I picked them up for lunch and we ate at a fine dining establishment of their choice... Chili's. We had a great time and Emma had tons of smiles. The girls had a blast at camp, but we missed them and are glad they're back. Now they have a few more weeks of summer to enjoy before they start school!

Just some random pictures for your viewing pleasure. Just cannot get enough of that face!

This week we also practiced some tummy time. Gotta strengthen those neck muscles!! While this activity is not a favorite of Emma's, she is definitely getting the hang of it and is tolerating it for longer periods at a time.

Friday night we had dinner with Calvin, Jennifer, Treavor, Chris and Panadda. We had some good ole BBQ at Goode Co. Emma did great and preferred to sit in my lap than sit in her car seat. It's hilarious, just as long as she can look around, she is just fine. She sat in my lap for over an hour and did not make a peep...

Saturday my mom had some friends over to meet Emma. We had a great time and Emma was a doll. After about an hour or so, she got tired and literally passed out in about 2 seconds. She took a 20 minute nap and was ready for more!

On Sunday, Carla and Jacob came for a visit to meet Emma. Carla is expecting and is due at the end of November! They find out on Tuesday whether they will have a boy or girl. So exciting! We had a wonderful visit. I have known Carla for almost 20 years. One minute we're in middle school together, then we're off to different colleges, then we're getting together and talking baby talk. Time sure does fly.

And to end the weekend, we celebrated my cousin's birthday at a nearby Japanese restaurant. We sat in a separate room where they prepared our dinner on a hibachi grill. Emma did not seem to enjoy her very first hibachi grill experience. It got pretty smoky and loud in there with the banging of all of the utensils, so I took her outside for a walk while our food was being prepared. (As you can see in the fourth picture, Emma is not very pleased at all...)
